Koh Hin Ngam

After a quick 10 minute long tail boat ride from Koh Lipe, we set off to the magnificent Island Of Koh Hin Ngam or as the locals call it, Beautiful Stone Island, the water was a little rough and the children and I were feeling a little bit sea sick, but once we arrived at this stunning spot, the motion sickness soon dissipated. Koh Hin Ngam forms part of the Adang archipelago and attracts visitors from all over the world to witness the unspoilt beauty of this Island, and once you visit this tiny Island you can understand why.

The waves gently lapping against the stunning smooth, polished stones..

Koh Hin Ngam is an Island that is covered by beautiful black polished volcanic stones that have formed by the waves hitting the shores for possibly thousands of years. The smooth, shiny surfaced stones of various shapes, sizes and colours are an amazement sight to visitors of the Island and the stones can be found in black, blue, brown, and red with stunning patterns throughout them.

On the southern side of the Island is a stunning perfect coral reef which is perfect for snorkelling with your children, and will provide hours of entertainment.

Once we arrived on the Island the children and I were in awe by the beauty that mother nature had provided us with and couldn't get off the long tail boat fast enough to discover this Island.

Here I am relaxing and just enjoying the moment...

Louis in awe of this Island

The feeling of the smooth polished stones underfoot was amazing, even so that I did actually indulge in a rock massage

THE CURSE OF THE GOD OF TARUTAO

The Thai locals believe that taking one of these rocks away from Koh Hin Ngam will cause bad luck and there is even a large sign on the Island stating 'The Curse Of The God Of Tarutao' and it even specifies the meaning of bad luck that will come your way, according to the ancient rock beliefs stealing some of the volcanic marbles will lead to.  The 'Thai' locals take this very seriously and we did capture a cheeky photo of my eldest son pretending to fill his pockets full of marbles in front of the sign, but we are very respectful to the local customs and left the Island stoneless and unscathed.

Louis and William making their own pile of 12 rocks and make a wish

The main attraction to this unspoilt piece of paradise is on the northern point of the beach, where tourists come to stack stones and make a wish. It is said that if you make a stack of 12 stones and make a wish, your wish will come true...I'm still waiting for that to happen...or maybe it already has and I just haven't realised??.

So as the children continued to play and discover the Island I decided it was time to Indulge in a rock massage..and It was seriously amazing, the sound of the gentle waves lapping against the stones whilst smooth rocks gently massaging your back was a wonderful feeling.
